As we all know, the gearbox is a necessity in the process of driving the vehicle. There are many types of cars in this world, and there are also many types of gearboxes. Because of demand, all have business.
Schaeffler, ZF, Allison, Magneti Marelli, Eaton, Fast... There are many brands of gearboxes. When choosing a gearbox, how can we tell whether it is what we need through the nameplate of the gearbox?
Here are a few common identification methods for gearbox nameplates:
1.ZF
For example, the following picture:

1. 16S2531TO Nameplate:
Number '16' in the first column represents the number of forward gears;
'S' means with synchronizer, only 'S' means manual transmission.
Number '25' in the second column represents the input torque of 2500N.M, and the number * 100N.m is the torque corresponding to this gearbox.
The single number '3' in the third column: [0: light truck; 1: medium truck; 3: heavy truck].
Number '1' in the fourth column: [0: Standard type; 1: With intarder; 2: With full power power take-off; 3: Reinforced bearing; 4: Shift servo assist; 5: Clutch PTO].
The letter T: for truck; B: for bus; P: for pickup; V: for Van; L: for long distance.
O: for overdrive, the highest gear ratio is less than 1;
D: for direct gear, the highest gear ratio is equal to 1.
S: Synchronous mesh transmission (manual transmission)
AS: automatic transmission system
AP: Automatic Powershift Transmission
TX: TraXon series
CX: Electric central drive CeTrax
HP: Transmission with hydraulic torque converter and planetary gear set
GP: for rear auxiliary transmission
2. Eaton - USA Eaton
For example, the following picture:
RTX-11710B
‘R’: Roadranger;
‘T’: twin countershaft;
‘X’ indicates overdrive with direct mode, ‘O’ indicates overdrive;
‘11’ means the rated torque is 1100 lb-ft, and the number * 100 lb-ft corresponds to the torque of this gearbox;
‘7’ indicates the design level of the gearbox;
‘10’ represents the number of forward gears;
‘A/B/C’ is the speed ratio code.
2-1. Eaton Fuller x Fast series

FSO-10209A·AW3
‘F’: Fuller;
‘S’ stands for Synchronization;
‘O’: Overdrive;
‘10’ means the torque is 1000 lb-ft, and the number * 100 lb-ft is the torque corresponding to this gearbox;
‘2’ indicates the design level of the gearbox;
‘09’ indicates the number of forward gears;
‘A/B/C’ is the speed ratio code.
3. Fast
For example, the following picture:

9JS(S)(X)150TA-B
‘9’ number of forward gears;
‘JS’ means mechanical Twin-countershaft structure;
‘(S)’ represents the threecountershaft of the auxiliary box;
‘(X)’ indicates that the auxiliary box is helical;
‘160’ means the rated input torque is 1500Nm, and the number *10N.m is the torque corresponding to this gearbox.
‘T’ means with synchronizer
‘A/B/C/D/E’ represents the speed ratio code
‘-B’ belt represents the improved type based on TA
